Lyrics

AZURE BLUE – BENEATH THE HILL I SMELL THE SEA

A TOWN LIKE ALICE
I was born a Monday
but my heart it was a Friday
in a town called Malice.
But you couldn’t care less.

You came
turned my world around
and left it upside down.
I know there’s feelings
but the feelings come and go.

I’m a city sleeper.
But my childhood was a field day
in a town like Alice.
But you couldn’t care less.

You came
turned my world around
and left it upside down.
I know there’s feelings
but the feelings come and go.

EVERY ENDING STORY
Every simple story
has an ending to be penned.
All day long I think of things
that I cannot comprehend.
Every ending story -
every line before us.
Every state of boredom
around the bend.

You gave it all to me
but I lost it again.
It was a dream in a dream
and the dawn of our downfall.
The Milky Way’s son
got a moon full of dust.
And the satellite child
got a room full of deep space.
Paris to Madrid
London to Rome.
Moscow to Berlin
and to New York City.
Always on the road -
going deeper and deeper -
again and again and again.

Every simple story
meets transcendence in the end.
Funny how it all went wrong
and I lost myself again.
Every ending story -
every line before us.
Every state of boredom
around the bend.

You gave it all to me
but I lost it again.
It was a dream in a dream
and the dawn of our downfall.
The Milky Way’s son
got a moon full of dust.
And the satellite child
got a room full of deep space.
Paris to Madrid
London to Rome.
Moscow to Berlin
and to New York City.
Always on the road -
going deeper and deeper -
again and again and again.

But I love the dawning
Though I shun the break of day.
Funny how the dream’s alive
after all your fallen fayes.

Every ending story.
Every ending story.
Every ending story.
Every ending story.

I was leaving by the garden gate
in the moonlight by the fence we lay.
I was listening to the railway in the darkness -
moving over broken grounds.

REFLECTIONS OF LIGHT
You’re running away
from all you want to be.
You’re running away
from all your dreams.
But the stranger is you -
in all the mystery.
You lie awake in the night
without a clue.

Cause it’s something
so sad but so true.
I will never see you again.
Cause it’s something
so sad but so true.
My love.

You’re running away
from all your destiny
You’re running away
from all you love.
All the keys lie within -
but where’s the chivalry
as you search
for the crimson in the blue?

Cause it’s something
so sad but so true.
I will never see you again.
Cause it’s something
so sad but so true.
This love.

And the Willows will bend
and the bridges will burn.
And you’ll find yourself reaching
for the lessons you’ve learned.
Those few moments of clarity -
the reflections of light.
All the faces you’ve loved
Illuminate in the night.
All the fights, all the kisses
all the eyes that you miss.
All the shivers and fevers
coming down like a dream.
Cause it’s something
so sad but so true
to be loved.
Cause it’s something
so sad but so true
to be loved.

THERE WAS A TIME
There was a time
when you blew my mind.
But there comes a time
for leaving behind.

I used to think
I was inept for feeling blue.
I used to think
that it was up to me and you.

There was a time
with you by my side.
But constants subside
and black is the tide.

I used to think
I was inept for feeling blue.
I used to think
that it was up to me and you.

All those seasons.
All those lives.
All those dreams
that came and died.
Though we tried.
Really tried.

There was a time.
There was a time.
There was a time.
There was a time.

BENEATH THE HILL
I’m coming down a grassy hill.
A looming slope a sea, a coast -
a turqoise swimming pool.
I’ve never heard a voice so pure.
Beyond the beach the city dusk.
An artificial cloud of dust.
The horizon and the sea so vast -
the seven muses of the past.
The colors of the sounds, the waves.
I tell myself be true and brave.
The reason for the climb was you.
I tell myself be true.
Be true.

Once I was settled in your heart.
But where lovebirds look for reasons
I found swallows instead.

Long lost the life I’ve left behind.
Though the story is still aging
I’m still begging for more.

Take it from me I know my score -
there’s no start nor an ending.
Can you feel it?
I’m still moving.
I’m still moving.
I’m still moving.
I’m still moving.

Long lost the life we’ve left behind.
And our story is still aging.
We’re not getting any younger.
Not getting younger.
We’re not getting younger.
We’re not getting any younger
Not getting younger.
Not getting younger.
But still begging for more.

TRAGEDY AND CHANGES
I want to be there in your heart.
I want to touch you from the soul.
I want to fall beyond control
into the bottom of your soul.

Loud loutish lovers please be kind
when life is tragedy and changes.
The lives you found and left behind -
you’ll want to keep them on your mind.

But when the night is cruel and dark.
And when your face appears again.
The eyes that kill so softly -
the look that murders swiftly.
Just when the night is cruel and dark
And you return to me again.
I want to be the light
that guides you through the night.

I want to be there in your heart.
I want to touch you from the soul.
Though I’ve been known to tear apart.
I want to slip inside your heart.

And in return you’re gonna be my guiding light.

BABY YOU ARE A STAR
Baby you are a star.
Baby you are a star to me.
I don’t know just where you are.
I don’t know where you are.
I hope that you’re not alone.
I hope that you’re not alone as I am.
Sinking just like a stone.
Wish I could make it on my own.

Baby you are a star.
Shooting away too far to hear me
calling you from afar.
Don’t know where you are.
I hope that you’re not alone.
I hope that you’re not alone as I am.
Sinking just like a stone.
Wish I could make it on my own.

Love will beat you down,
bring you to your knees.
To your knees.
Love will pick you up,
make you beg and plead.
Beg and plead.
Love will beat you down,
bring you to your knees.
To your knees.
Love will pick you up,
make you beg and plead.
Beg and plead.

Baby you are a star.
Baby you are a star to me.
I don’t know just where you are.
I don’t know where you are.
I hope that you’re not alone.
I hope that you’re not alone as I am.
Sinking just like a stone.
Wish I could make it on my own.

JUSTICE (Robert Forster cover)
I’m a lucky man.
I’m a lucky man.
The best is yet to come.
The best is yet to come.
To be in times like these
we are not hard to please.
Don’t ask me
how long I’ve been searching.
Don’t ask her
how long she’s been waiting.
To be in times like these
we are not hard to please.
There’s lace at the door
and a fire upstairs.
There’s smoke in the night
and someone who cares.
To be in times like these
we are not hard to please.

AZURE BLUE – BEYOND THE DREAMS THERE’S INFINITE DOUBT

TIME IS ON OUR SIDE
I only wanted something real.
But people never notice anything.
Sweet dreams arise and take control
- enjoy the ride or fake it.
I can still believe in feelings
but I still want to feel the believing.
Time is on our side.

Maybe it’s a game that people play.
The more they steal
the less you want it back.
Sweet dreams arise and take control
enjoy the ride or fake it.
A dream sought good
- an unsought better.
You know I live and breathe the latter.
Time is on our side.

I want to be the one you want.
I want to be the one you want.
I want to be the one you want.

Sweet dreams arise and take control
enjoy the ride or fake it.
I can still believe in feelings
but I still want to feel the believing.
Time is on our side.
Time is on our side.
Time is on our side.
Time is on our side.

THE ROAD I KNOW
My love, you say these walls are inside me.
But who needs a side in this?
Let’s say they’re in both.
You came, you bent and folded my destiny
You’ve taken my breath from me.
You’ve stolen my breath.
And you know this part of me.
Just you know this part.

Summer came.
I told you to stick to this side of me.
Now the winter’s here
I’m not gonna tell you again.
I should wake you up
and tell you that you’re just dreaming love.
And I can’t deny
this winter’s opened my eyes.
But I cannot tell.
I cannot tell you now.
But I cannot tell.
I cannot tell you now.

The road I know becoming a travesty.
Predicting the scheme of things
- depicting our death.
But you, you have to get to the core of me.
You dig to the bones of me.
You dig through my skin.

WILLOWS AND PINES
“Can you hear me calling
through the wind across this town?
”
Quietly I answered
with a sign – without a sound.
Swiftly you are drifting
through the willows and the pines.
Slipping to a corner of my mind.

“Can you see me sinking
like a stone into the sea?”
Quietly I watched her
shed a tear into her tea.
All I am is all you were
but now it’s only me.
Love became a lock without a key.

And I hear you calling out
through the willows and the pines.
Like an echo of my mind.
Can you see me falling now?
Like a wave without a sound.
Like an echo of my mind.

“Can you hear me calling
through the wind across this town?”
Quietly I answered

with a sign – without a sound.
Swiftly you are drifting
through the willows and the pines.
Slipping to a corner of my mind.

WHEN THE LOVE IS PURE AND TRUE
In light they go.
In the light they go.
Into the light they go.
Into the light they’ll go.

I’d been waiting for a long time
in stages too see
devotion come around.
Across the bridge above the water
- relations aligned
like robins on the ground.

When you know the road is long.
And you know you left a home.
And you know you’ll miss your freedom.
Like I know you miss yours, too.

Then a feeling comes along
from the deepest of the core.
And you feel you have a course.
Not a clear one but a course.
And you start to move your feet.
And your heart is racing, too.
And you know you’ve got no choice.

I’d been waiting for a long time
in stages too see
devotion come around.
Across the bridge above the water
- relations aligned
like robins on the ground.

And you know that there is blues.
And God knows you’ve got your blue.
And I know your shade is true.
And you know my color, too.
When the love is pure and true.
When the love is pure and true.
When the love is pure and true.
When the love is pure and true.

SUNSET
I can’t turn the lights out darling.
I can’t close the door.
I can’t say forever
cause I’ll love you evermore.
You changed me.
You changed me.

You held my hand at night.
We crumbled
- the tears were black and gold.
The eyes of fallen lovers whispered:
“Never evermore”.
You changed me.
You changed me.

Your body’s calm and fear beside me.
The feeling of defeat inside me.
The dream within the nightmare coming through.
To uncreate the uncreated.
Dismissing the disintegrated.
Our gravity – the fear letting go.

THE BITTER END
You gave your heart to me
I can’t believe it’s through
and now you’re gone.
Don’t make it hard for me.
Dip your wings in blue
and leave alone.

I’m not gonna think it over.
Even though I’ll never see your face again.
I’m not gonna say I’m sorry.
Cause this blues has found a bitter end.
This blues has found a bitter end.

Love is a travesty.
Let’s repeat the cue
to make a point.
All of our lives we’ll dream.
Stars will fall
and suns will burn in gold.

I’m not gonna think it over.
Even though I’ll never see your face again.
I’m not gonna say I’m sorry.
Cause this blues
has found a bitter end.

I’m not gonna take it sober.
So tonight I’m gonna blame myself again.
I’m not gonna say I’m sorry.
Cause this blues has found a bitter end.
This blues has found a bitter end.

We sat by the broken window.
and watched the sunlight disappear.
(A silver moon of broken promises
Lit up a silhouette against the sky.)

This blues has found a bitter end.
This blues has found a bitter end.

BY YOUR SIDE (Sade cover)
You think I’d leave your side, baby.
You know me better than that.
Think I’d leave you down
when you’re down on your knees.
I wouldn’t do that.
I’ll tell you you’re right when you want.
And if only you could see into me.

Oh, when you’re cold
I’ll be there, hold you tight to me.

When you’re on the outside, baby
and you can’t get in.
I will show you
you’re so much better than you know.
When you’re lost and you’re alone
and you can’t get back again.
I will find you, darling
and I’ll bring you home.

And if you want to cry
I am here to dry your eyes.
And in no time, you’ll be fine.

You think I’d leave your side, baby.
You know me better than that.
You think I’d leave you down
when you’re down on your knees.
I wouldn’t do that.
I’ll tell you you’re right when you’re wrong
And if only you could see into me.

Oh, when you’re cold
I’ll be there, hold you tight to me.
Oh, when you’re low
I’ll be there by your side, baby.
Oh, when you’re cold
I’ll be there, hold you tight to me.
Oh, when you’re low
I’ll be there by your side, baby.

AZURE BLUE – RULE OF THIRDS

FINGERS (Grant McLennan cover)
Hey you! Watch me fall through your fingers.
I will spill away like sand.
Hey you! Watch me fall through your fingers.
Now you know what it’s like to be a man.

I still remember, the night you sang Moon River.
The way the moonlight lay, like a bracelet on your wrist.
You said, “I want my ring back.” I said, “Indian giver.
”
When all I wanted, was your finger not your fist.

I said, “Hey you! Watch me fall through your fingers.
I will spill away like falling sand.
”
I said, “Hey you! Watch me fall through your fingers.
Now you know what it’s like to be a man.”

I said, “Hey you! Watch me fall through your fingers.
I will spill away like falling sand.
”
I said, “Hey you! Watch me fall through your fingers.
Now you know what it’s like to be a man.
Now you know what it’s like to be a man.
Now you know what it’s like.”

THE CATCHER IN THE RYE
It doesn’t matter.
It all makes sense for all I know.
It’s the same thing that has come that will go.
I tried to speak up
(most of the time I was muzzled by a joke)
but inspiration took a break and I choked.

I said I’d give an eye for you,
but that was just a lie.
I said I’d be the catcher in the rye for you,
but that was just a lie.
I said I’d fight and die for you,
but that was just a lie.
I said I’d steal the sun from the sky for you,
but that was just a lie.
I just closed my eyes for you.

It’s just a cycle.
Didn’t we all find out long ago?
From Hemingway to The Crystals,

from de Sade to Sade.
It doesn’t matter.
It all makes sense for all I know.
Those starry eyes will glisten,
till the waves reach the cove.

I said I’d give an eye for you,

but that was just a lie.

I said I’d be the catcher in the rye for you,

but that was just a lie.

I said I’d fight and die for you,

but that was just a lie.

I said I’d steal the sun from the sky for you,

but that was just a lie.

I just closed my eyes.

I only closed my eyes.

I just closed my eyes for you.

SEASONS

Lately, I’ve been reading.

Some novels are misleading

the seasons of the heart.
There’s a time for holding on

and a time for letting go.
And I know I’ve been down

for the years that shook my ground

I got bad, I got sad.

But the world keeps spinning round.

The years pass, we get older

the seasons make us colder

- and the world might change a bit.

But we don’t forget those eyes.
The eyes that shook our grounds.
And I know I’ve been down

for the love and liaisons.
You get bad, you get sad.

But the world keeps spinning.

You lose your heart, and you lose your game.

You find the rhythm and lose it again.

And then you’re trying to

find the reason but it’s gone.

And you just can’t get it back.

And you just can’t get it back.

And you just can’t get it back.

And you just can’t get it back.

And you just can’t get it.

LITTLE CONFUSIONS

Just as nature born,
as the coming of the day.

All these little confusions.
Let’s dream away.
Cause I love, love you.

And that’s all I have to say.

Cause I love, love, love you.

Let’s dream away, dream away.

And there’s no meaning or a cause

in any word I have to say.

Except the love, love, love, love.

Let’s dream away, dream away.
Cause I love, love you.

And that’s all I have to say.

Cause I love, love, love you.

Let’s dream away, dream away.

But there’s no cheating or illusions

in any word I have to say.

It’s just the coming of our fusion.

Let’s dream away, dream away.
And there’s no evil or a flaw

in any word I have to say.

It’s just the love, love, love, love.

Let’s dream away, dream away.

No there’s no evil or a flaw

in any word I have to say.

It’s just the love, love, love, love.

Let’s dream away, dream away, dream away.

LONG WAY DOWN

Hey light, I will be keeping you here in my mind.

My heart is hard but lost and can’t be found.

It’s a long way down

when you try to turn the opposites around.

We’d just lie and watch the ticking away of the time

And try to find the cues that can’t be found

on a long way down.

The extravagant persistence of the mind!

But I’ve never heard your voice this clear before.

And it’s never been as resonant before.
But I didn’t leave my heart in you

my heart it can’t be found.

And I didn’t rip my roots for you

my soul’s a lonely vine this time.

This time, this time, this time.

DREAMY EYES

There’s a color of my heart in

the light and the dark and it’s blue.

In the dusk and the dawn

and the time in between it’s just blue.

The beginning and end of a season

is simple and blue.

I’m a literal fool, an apprentice,

a rebel of blue.

There’s a color of my heart

in the light and the dark and it’s blue.

In the dusk and the dawn

and the time in between it’s just blue.

Dreamy eyes, dreamy eyes,

dreamy eyes, dreamy eyes.

I’d say, ”being a man of today

is so hard I get blue”.

You’d say, ”speaking like that

to a woman is sexist and rude”.

I’d say, ”what do you mean

we’re the same I’m a feminist, too.

It’s no structural harm or offence

I’m just spilling my blues.”

There’s a color of my heart

in the light and the dark and it’s blue.

In the dusk and the dawn

and the time in between it’s just blue.

Dreamy eyes, dreamy eyes,

dreamy eyes, dreamy eyes.

We keep striking our hearts

with the paw of a bear.

For a slip of the tongue

and a truth we can’t hear.

We keep clinging to the dream

when the nightmare is beginning.

And we’re put through the test

with our hearts in a mess.

We know all the theories

and see what is there.

But the longer we struggle

the harder we fall.

Though we don’t even know

what we want anymore.

So we strike at our hearts

with the paw of a bear.

For a slip of the tongue

and a truth we can’t hear.

We keep clinging to the dream

when the nightmare is upon us.

And we’re put through the test

with our hearts in a mess.

We know all the theories

and see what is there

but the longer we struggle

the harder we fall

though we noticed when we lost it.

THE SHORE

Time will always be a bore.

I always run for more

when things begin to settle for me.

But I’ve become too old for quoting Nietzsche.

But I’m not a modern man

So I wryly return to the sea.

A cliché metaphor:

We’re standing on the shore or on a harbor

and we’re watching the waves.

And we’re safe on the wharf

when we’re unsafe upon the waters.

When the moon is half and hiding

and intentions are colliding.

We’ll be safe on the harbor

when we’re unsafe upon the waters.

When the stars are all colliding

and the oceans are colliding

we’ll be safe on the shores of our love.

We’ll be safe on the shores.

Love, I hate your second verse.

It’s always been a curse

when you have to make some progress or change.

But I’ve seen many ways to end relations.

Though I’m not the leaving kind

I’m an expert of pushing away.

I thought I’d let you know

before it starts to snow around this city

but it’s already here.

And we shake on the wharf

where we’d be safe upon the harbor.

When the moon is half and hiding

and intentions are colliding.

Are we safe on the harbor?

Are we unsafe upon the waters?

When the stars are all colliding

and the oceans are colliding

are we safe on the shores of our love?

Are we safe on the shores?

This is no design to make you sad.

It’s just a way of seeing where we are.

This is no design to make you sad.

But we’ve got to make a change

or we’ll be done before this year’s ended.
But believe in me now, cause I need you now.

But believe in me now, cause I need you now.

But believe in me now, cause I need you now.

TWO HEARTS

We’re coming down this road for just two years.

I don’t know what you mean to me.

I don’t know what you mean to me, my love.

It’s the same old theme when August fades.

I don’t know what you mean to me.

I don’t know what you mean to me, my love.

We’re two hearts. With one chance of love.

It’s sinking into me like falling leaves.

I don’t know what you mean to me.

My thoughts are with the scenery.

For the first three weeks of autumn skies.

Remember all those dreams and lies.

Remember July paradise, my love.

We’re two hearts. With one chance of love.

But if the time is right and the feeling’s wrong

you’d better not wait for the chill too long.

I’d rather take the fall, I’d rather leave it all

because you’d better not steal my heart.

But if the time is wrong, and the feeling’s right

you’d better not slip in the scene tonight.

I’d rather run than crawl, I’d rather leave it all

because you’d better not steal my heart.

I said, you’d better not steal my heart.

I said, you’d better not steal my heart.

I said, you’d better not steal my heart.

CHESIL BEACH

I’m sorry that I never told you, baby.

In every way, you made me whole.

I’m sorry that I took your love for granted.

Just like I swore I never would.

But the wave moved on

from a breaker to another, my love.

And it ain’t ever rolling home.

I’m sorry that I never took your picture

right at the early break of day.

I’m sorry that I never will forgive you.

And how we ended up this way.

But the wave moved on

from a breaker to another, my love.

And it ain’t ever rolling home.
But the wave moved on

from a breaker to another, my love.
And it ain’t ever rolling home.

But the wave moved on

from a breaker to another, my love.

And it ain’t ever rolling home.

But the wave moved on

from a breaker to another, my love.

And it ain’t ever rolling home.

But the wave moved on
from a breaker to another…

Are you going to update the lyrics by putting the lyrics to “Beneath the Hill I Smell the Sea”?

    Really enjoying all your albums.

We would go that far to say that Azure Blue might just have released one of Scandinavias most interesting LPs at the moment. 80s guitars, shynts, sticky beats and catchy lyrics. In what world could that go wrong?
